This is what being a BuyLocalAlberta.ca Supporting Member means to the community Movement!
An impressive 92% of Albertans believe shopping locally is important, with roughly 80% reporting it is more important than last year. Roughly 67% of Albertans feel their spending has a direct impact on their community, and nearly 70% are motivated to spend on local goods and services to support our local economy.
*The Edmonton Journal
A surge in support is driven by a desire to keep dollars within the province, with 66-68 cents of every dollar spent at a small business staying local.
*Government of Alberta +1
Big Box Stores return approximately 24-26 cents per dollar spent to the local community, which is attributed mostly to employee wages, taxes, and advertising budgets.
This Movement is not meant to exempt Big Box Stores, but rather choose to Buy Local First whenever possible.
Directing just 10% more spending to Local Businesses creates a significant impact on our local economy and communities.
